RITM
Rituals and Texts in Mesopotamia
An international research network exploring ritual practices in ancient Mesopotamia through philological, historical, and theoretical approaches.

Our approach
Over the past decades, the edition and publication of Mesopotamian ritual texts have advanced considerably, opening up new possibilities for research while also raising new methodological questions. How should these texts be read, contextualized, and interpreted? While ritual studies and anthropological theory offer valuable perspectives, they cannot always be applied directly to Mesopotamian sources.
RITM was established to foster a dialogue between Mesopotamian evidence and broader theoretical approaches to ritual. By bringing together specialists working on different periods, regions, and textual traditions, the network provides a collaborative environment in which new methodologies can be developed through the exchange of work in progress, constructive discussion, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
